Visit to Cenacolo di Sant'Apollonia

This week I visited Cenacolo di Sant'Apollonia also known as the Convent of Santa Apollonia. Again, the building looks simple on the outside but the inside is definitely the opposite. My favorite part, which also happens to be the most famous, is the last supper painting which is located in the refectory. I learned that this painting is one of several, each completed by a different artist, and located in different convents throughout Florence. I would definitely like to see others as well if I get the chance because then I could compare the different paintings and see the differences that the artists chose to emphasize. The convent is now considered a museum and mostly features different paintings I noticed. A very long room led up to the painting of the last supper and I couldn't help but think about how this room had once been used. Because it was a convent, this room was most likely very quiet and only held religious activities. Today, people pass through to see the incredible painting but it makes me wonder if other people even know what the building used to be used for. Overall, the visit was quite interesting and it made me want to find the other last supper paintings throughout Florence.
