The
documentary "The Nun" we watched in class depicts a woman who
completely gave herself to God in a critical stage in her life. She gave up the
former ways of her life, which she considered to be sinful. The measures she
took to demonstrate her immense devotion to God include the following: Visiting
a priest for confession on a regular basis and keeping records of actions of which
she considered to be sins. The need to devote herself to religion originated
from her feeling that something essential was missing in her life. After her
youngest child was diagnosed with cancer and the husband left the family, her
life began to crumble.
During the course of the story, she learned that
temptation is a natural thing. She became a stronger woman through
strengthening her faith in God. I found the documentary intriguing because it
demonstrates that anyone with the will to change their life can do so through a
certain devotion to religion. The woman who decided to become a nun in her
early 50s found her calling through becoming director
of a choir in the monastery. Although I consider myself to be a spiritual
person, I do not believe I could devote my entire life to the priesthood.
However, the woman seems to enjoy her new way of life
